Mount Agung to Erupt?

September 25, 2017

Increased frequency and strength of tremors surrounding Mount Agung, Bali, is strongly suggesting that an eruption is imminent.

Geography behind the Mexico Earthquake

September 19, 2017

What caused the magnitude 7.1 earthquake in Mexico yesterday?

Mexico is located where three different tectonic plates, the North American, Cocos and Pacific, meet. Yesterdays earthquake was caused as a result of the subduction** of the Cocos plate under the North American plate. The USGS measures this movement to be a rapid 76 millimeters a year, resulting in huge pressure building up which occasionally releases resulting in an earthquake.

You can find a very simple animation of this process HERE.

**subduction describes the motion of one plate sliding under the other at a convergent plate boundary.

Snow Leopard no longer Endangered

September 15, 2017

I was very excited to read today that the Snow Leopard is no longer endangered. This was announced by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The species conservation status has been changed to vulnerable, meaning that they are certainly not out of danger yet, however, it is a start.

The Girls by Emma Cline

September 14, 2017

I finished reading this fantastic book yesterday and I could not recommend it more to anyone. I am ashamed to admit that I do not read as much as I used to, however, I was absolutely hooked by this book. It is cleverly written, with a simple, but highly affective, plot.

Driving the Scenic Route from Pula to Zadar

September 10, 2017

Making the drive to Zadar for some serious R & R following a mad weekend at Outlook Festival in Pula, we were privy to some fabulous views like this one.

Returned home from Outlook Festival, Croatia

September 12, 2017

You will be pleased to know that I arrived home, in one piece (just), from wonderful Outlook Festival in Croatia. After completing the scenic and mountainous 5 hour drive from Zadar to Pula, we arrived at the festival carpark. It took us a while to lug all our bits and bobs round to the festival entrance. With the tent safely rigged, we realised we were camping next to a crazy group of Irish who we quickly befriended. Be warned.. Croatia is subject to much rain, clue in how green it is, therefore, it is important to pack a sense of humour and similar items one would take to a festival in the UK.

With stages nestled among the old Pula fort, every artist you will watch has a fabulous and different backdrop. From the Main Stage (Clearing), which dominates the highest section of the Istrian Peninsula, to The Moat, a small stage one has to climb down into with its high walls, one will not be disappointed by the various viewing platforms.

An absolute week to remember - thank you Outlook!
